There is a billboard in Priceton Texas that says: “Advertise Here $250.00 Month”
This seems like a good idea, but I have never seen any billboards with the cost to advertise.
Do you think this is a good or bad idea?
Bad idea. Always leave off the cost. That person has now ruined his ability to negotiate. If someone calls, he has little room to manuever. If he had not put the price on, he could say “that sign is normally $500 per month, but I really want to get it rented so I might go $250 …” – now he can’t do that. And what if he has signs with other advertisers that he is charging more on the same street? That’s right, they’re all going to call him demanding he match the $250 price.
That was a real bonehead move by that operator.
