Hey Frank, I’m small semi-rural landowner with approx. 600’ of highway front. I live beside a popular single-lane highway. Since purchasing my (first) home, I had the dream to construct multiple billboards in order to help finance my home. Real quick and easy here are some key details:
- planning to construct x3 “V style” structures.
- This would leave me with x6 10’x20’ signs.
- 50m setback from the highway
- planning to construct with 35’ hydro poles (buried 8’-10’ below grade), 1/2” plywood sheeting, and 2’x4’ framing
I don’t know anyone personally who has experience with outdoor advertising or billboard construction, so this is me winging it.
The main reason I am interested in this venture is because along my highway, most of the billboards are renting for $1200/mo + install & supply. So, this could be extremely lucrative for me.
I guess my question for you is, what are your thoughts on my path so far? What should I be keeping in mind? I haven’t nailed down any specifics quite yet, but I did apply for my sign permits today.
Thank you, JT.
