Static Billboards or Mobile Truck Advertising – Which Works Better in a Crowded City Like NYC?

We’ve been working in the outdoor advertising space in NYC, and one question that keeps coming up is: What works better — traditional static billboards or LED advertising trucks?

From what we’ve observed, especially in a city like New York, where people are always on the move, mobile LED trucks seem to offer more dynamic reach. You’re not tied to a single location — you can drive the message directly into specific neighborhoods, target peak hours, or park near high-traffic areas during events and rush times.

Since mobile LED billboards are animated, bright, and moving, they tend to capture attention more quickly than static ones that people may pass by without noticing over time.

That said, static billboards still serve a purpose — especially for long-term brand presence in high-visibility areas, such as highways or landmark spots.

I think it depends on what you’re trying to achieve.

Static billboards are ideal if you want your ad to be in one prominent location all the time, such as a landmark or a main road. People pass by it every day, so it builds recognition over time.

Mobile trucks are better if you want flexibility. You can move through different neighborhoods, follow events, or be where the crowds are at certain times. The movement and bright screens often get noticed faster in a city full of distractions.

Honestly, in NYC, a mix of both can work best — one keeps your brand in people’s minds, and the other gets you in front of new eyes.
